Exam Info
CT (Computed Tomography, CT Scan or CAT Scan) is an imaging technology which uses x-ray beams and computers to form detailed cross-sectional images of an area of anatomy.
CT, when used by your dental professional, will provide important information about your bone density and the structure of your jaw.
If your dental provider has requested a SimPlant® study, your CT will be combined with SimPlant®'s precise preoperative software. This cutting-edge technology provides highly-accurate mapping capabilities to aid in the placement of dental implants. SimPlant® makes it possible for your dental provider to travel, virtually, via computer, through the jaw bone in search of the best and most accurate location for the proposed implant.
You can expect to be with the CT technologist for approximately 15 minutes. The exam is performed while you lie flat on the CT table (gantry) with your head in a cushioned support. You will be asked to bite on a tongue depressor that separates the upper and lower teeth. Your technologist will ask you to remain still while the scan is performed. The scanner will not touch you and you will not feel the x-rays.
